His Story
About Tyrell Ramone Finley
A humanitarian in the truest sense. A mentor who saw the best in everyone. A gentle giant who believed love and compassion were the primary tools for restoration.
Who Was Heavy
A Humanitarian in the Truest Sense
Tyrell Finley was not defined by a title or a job description. He was defined by how he made people feel — seen, valued, and worthy of a better tomorrow. Those who knew him called him "Heavy," a name that fit the man perfectly: he carried weight for others, lifted the burdens they couldn't lift alone, and never once made them feel small for needing him.
As an Intake Manager for a shelter and supportive housing program serving families and individuals, Tyrell was the first face people encountered during their most vulnerable moments. He didn't just process paperwork — he provided dignity. He didn't just assign rooms — he let people know they were human beings deserving of care. For many, Tyrell was the difference between despair and a first breath of hope.
But his heart for service extended far beyond the walls of that shelter. Tyrell had a profound calling to mentor children — helping them find their voice, their confidence, and their purpose. He believed that every child, regardless of circumstance, had something magnificent inside them. He made it his mission to help them see it.
"He felt that no one was beyond redemption and everyone deserved a helping hand."
On January 13, 2024, Tyrell Ramone Finley was taken from us tragically. The very streets he walked to serve his community became the site of his passing, struck by a vehicle as he went about his life. The grief that followed was immeasurable — but so was the resolve.
The Birth of 4UHEAVY
It is often said that there is purpose in pain. The 4UHEAVY Foundation was established to ensure that Tyrell's name, his passions, and his purpose would not die with him. Founded in his memory, the organization carries forward the exact work he lived for: protecting the vulnerable, uplifting children, and building a community where no one is left to carry their burdens alone.
The Second Street Pedestrian Safety Project
Tyrell's passing was not in vain — it sparked something. The 4UHEAVY Foundation, working alongside local advocacy groups, is actively working with city government to improve pedestrian safety infrastructure in the neighborhoods where Tyrell and families like his live and work. Crosswalks. Signage. Lighting. The Second Street Pedestrian Safety Project is named in his honor, and it is one of the ways 4UHEAVY turns grief into action.
The Community Legacy Garden
Tyrell believed in growth — in people, in children, in communities. The 4UHEAVY Community Legacy Garden is being developed as a living tribute to that belief: a space for nutrition education, environmental wellness, and community connection. Educational tours for youth bring Tyrell's love of learning and his love of people together in one place.
